From the ship building trade to the trade of ivory and slaves, we will visit, learn, and pray our way to local associated places 10:00 a.m. Meet at Osage Park: guided visit of this recently discovered site of shipbuilding and early (17th Century) commerce. (Prayer, remembering enslaved and those unknown, as well as enslavers) https://www.zip06.com/news/20180502/following-the-trail-of-history-at-osage-trails 10:45 a.m. Ivoryton town center: the fruits of the Ivory trade – theater, homes, library (Prayer) 11:00 a.m. Drive to Deep River landing. On the way, stop by the EsiCo building for prayer, where the ivory was cut. Guided visit at Deep River landing. (Prayer) 11:30 a.m. Drive Kirtland Street to the parking lot behind the Piano Works building: Stop for prayer at the Deep River Stream, that powered the mills in town. Go to the front of the building to stop for prayer as the site of factory. Noon: Drive to the Stone House, operated by the Deep River Historical Society: by groups of 10, time indoors to visit the collection of ivory artifacts and pianos; time outdoors to look at the bleach house; time to look at the other exhibits in the Stone House or to gather and talk about the morning. $10.00/person plus registration fee over Eventbrite Options after the tour: bring a picnic lunch and enjoy at one of the tables outside by the Stone House; or take advantage of some of the restaurants in Deep River; or go to Main St. Essex and visit the CT River Museum. There is walking required, including about ½ mile along a path at the Osage Park. You will need to wear a mask and to keep a distance from the other participants.
