Overview
The Bay Area News Group, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group, is a seeking an energetic self-motivated individual who can work part-time as a team player in the packaging center in our Concord printing plant.
Responsibilities include stacking inserts, feeding and monitoring hopper machines and stacking down inserts and newspaper bundles to ensure a high-quality newspaper is packaged. Most of the shifts will be evening and night shifts (including weekends) starting at either 5:00pm or 8:45pm, though on Fridays they could start as early as 3:00pm. The shift length varies between 4-8 hours, based on the quantity printed and production needs and times.
Responsibilities
Work evenings, nights, weekends and holiday shifts as required approximately 24-32 hours per week, depending on your availability.
Shifts vary in hours, days of week, start and finish times.
Stacking newspaper bundles/inserts onto pallets.
Correctly identifying pallets with skid tags.
Check inserts for correct dates.
Wrapping, strapping and moving pallets with a pallet jack.
Responsible for learning safety procedures.
General up keep and warehouse clean-up.
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary element for this job.
Responsible for being on time for shift on a daily basis.
Overtime is required on some shifts.
Responsible for accuracy, thoroughness & reliability.
Need to be able to handle multiple tasks and to be flexible in a changing environment.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. on a regular basis and work within deadlines.
Dependable with excellent attendance, including nights, weekend and holiday shifts.
Excellent communication skills.
Be a self-starter and able to work well independently.
Able to be flexible and follow simple directions.
