Description
BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree police warned residents to watch out for a scammer posing as an officer to steal residents' money.
Police said on three occasions, a scammer calling from 781-806-4056 posed as an officer and told people they needed to send money to clear their warrants. The scammer has a strong southern drawl, police said.
"None of our officers sound like they're from the Deep South. We have a hard enough time pronouncing our 'Rs,' police said in a Facebook post.
Police said they will never call anyone to clear up an arrest warrant in exchange for cash, gift cards. Bitcoin or any other type of currency.
If ever in doubt, Braintree police recommend hanging up and calling the station directly to determine if an inquiry is legit.
