MASSACHUSETTS — Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker hasn't said whether he will seek a third term, but if he does, one thing is certain: his response to the coronavirus pandemic will weigh heavily on voters' minds. As of Monday, more than 616,000 had been confirmed in Massachusetts since the first case on Feb. 1, and there have been 16,894 reported COVID-19 deaths. At the same time, businesses have had to scale back operations if not close outright, leaving thousands of Bay State residents out of work. The pandemic — and state government's response — will send reverberations through Massachusetts for decades to come. Baker's political opponents have seized on shortcomings in the state's response, most recently attacking how he has handled distributing the state's allotment of vaccines. More sympathetic politicians have noted that Baker and other governors are fighting an unprecedented battle with no playbook at their disposal. But what do voters think? To gauge how Massachusetts residents view the governor's response to this global health crisis, Patch has created a reader survey.
