ATTLEBORO, MA — The Florence Sweet Clubhouse has been ceremonially transferred over to the YMCA in Attleboro Friday morning. This occurred three days after the legal transfer at the North Bristol County of Registry of Deeds was recorded. There were about 30 members in the clubhouse during the passing of the keys.
The YMCA will lease the building to the Attleboro Area Interfaith Collaborative and it will become its headquarters.
The AAIC will be in charge of running food programs from the site and it will be a central location to contain and store all of its food for the first time in its history. As of now, they store foods elsewhere at different sites, one of them being the Willow Tree Farm on South Main Street.
When it comes to some of the changes in the near future, one of AAIC's priorities will be to expand its programs to help feed many people in need and struggling. The clubhouse can make this possible since they will be able to accommodate all their storage needs in their 2,5o0 square foot basement with a 10-foot high ceiling.
The Clubhouse has been losing money since the start of the pandemic but now with this collaboration and new ownership, they look to boost their profit with their new changes that will create many opportunities. The AAIC is housed at 95 Pine Street at the moment, a city-owned building.
