LONG BEACH, NY — A flag flown from the balcony of an apartment on East Broadway has some residents riled up, but the city says there's nothing it can do about them. A resident of the apartment complex on East Broadway is flying a "F--- Biden" flag under a pro-Donald Trump flag. The Long Beach Police Department said it has received multiple calls about the Biden flag, which some residents have found offensive. "While it is unfortunate that the person flying these flags has chosen to display a flag that utilizes profane language, the use of this language is considered constitutionally protected, especially when its is utilized as part of a political statement," the police department said in a statement. The flag's statement is considered protected speech under the First Amendment and the city can't force the flag's removal because it is flown by a private citizen. Police said they reached out to the owner of the flag and are trying to negotiate its removal by appealing to the resident's "sense of community."
