WATSONVILLE, CA — More than 100 people are calling on Pajaro Valley Unified School District Trustee Georgia Acosta to resign or risk facing a recall election.
The online petition began circulating last week and said she "failed PVUSD [and] the community, and it is past time she step down." Acosta did not respond to a request for comment.
"Watsonville community members deserve someone better than the Republican conservative Georgia Acosta serving as our trustee," the petition organizer wrote on change.org. "Community members deserve someone who cares about the community, not their own power grab."
The petition references the fact that Acosta racked up $16,000 in legal fees after the board voted in January to dismiss Superintendent Michelle Rodriguez on a 4-3 vote — a move reversed days later during a special meeting held in response to public outcry from the community.
This month the board decided on a 6-1 vote that the school district should not be held liable for the legal fees, since Acosta authorized the transactions without getting approval from her colleagues on the board, Lookout Santa Cruz reported.
