Madison Police Chief To Retire Next Month

MADISON, NJ — Thirty years ago, Darren P. Dachisen Sr. joined the Madison Police Department. Next month, he'll retire as chief. Dachisen announced in a letter to the community Monday that he will step down April 26. Those he thanked included his fellow officers, the Madison Fire Department and the Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps. "During my career, I have worked alongside some very special officers who work tirelessly to make this community a safe place to live and work," Dachisen said. "Please support these outstanding officers no matter what the national temperature is toward law enforcement." Officials haven't announced his replacement. Those who have served Madison police full-time for at least 10 years will qualify. The borough will open promotions to officers of the next rank who have served at least two years in said position, unless the mayor and council choose to test a wider pool of candidates. In that case, the borough may open testing to the next-highest rank and/or reduce the length-of-time requirement for the prior rank. "The retirement of Chief Dachisen is a huge loss to the Madison community," said borough spokesperson Michael Pellessier.
