NJ Man Charged With Attempted Murder Of Federal Agent

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A man from Trenton was accused of trying to kill a federal agent during a robbery, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday. Jabree Johnson, 26, of Cleveland Avenue, was charged with attempted murder, robbery, aggravated assault, resisting arrest and weapons offenses. According to the prosecutor's office, the incident occurred about 9 p.m. when undercover agents from the FBI and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and were at Krauszer's Food Store on Greenwood Avenue, Hamilton. Johnson, wearing a black mask, entered the undercover vehicle after one agent exited, and pointed a handgun at the second agent while demanding money, said authorities. One of the agents opened fire, and Johnson fired back before fleeing down Atlantic Avenue, said a media release. Trenton police were later informed by Capital Health Regional Medical Center that a gunshot victim was brought in at 9.05 p.m., said authorities, who identified the victim as Johnson. Authorities said Johnson told a detective with the Mercer County Shooting Response Team that he was shot in the area of Walnut Avenue but declined to provide further information. However, police said there were no reports of shots fired at the area. Johnson remains hospitalized and in stable condition. Video from the scene showed Johnson entering the undercover vehicle, pointing a gun and telling the undercover agent to hand over money, the prosecutor's office said.
