1 Dead After Mokena House Fire: Fire District

MOKENA, IL — One person died after a house fire in Mokena Monday night, the Mokena Fire Protection District said. The fire district responded to the fire at 7:20 p.m. Monday in the 11500 block of Jenyglenn Drive after a family member called 911. The district said the fire was in a bedroom on the second floor of the home, and one family member was safely removed from the home. Another resident, a 77-year-old woman, died after she was taken to Silver Cross Hospital. The fire district said the fire was caused by a cigarette, which was accelerated by a mobile oxygen concentrator. No additional injuries were reported, according to the district. The fire district said the fire was contained to the second-floor bedroom; although there was smoke and heat damage throughout the second floor.
