ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a pit bull attack, scams, thefts and driving violations. Here is information from the latest police reports: Pit bull attack A resident in the 600 block of South Mitchell Avenue reported that his dog was bitten by a pit bull through a backyard fence shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday. The resident said he tried to separate the two dogs and suffered a puncture wound to his right thumb. The dogs separated, and the owner of the pit bull left the area, last seen headed north on Mitchell Avenue. Scams A resident in the 200 block of South West Avenue told police he was scammed by a person purporting to be with Amazon Thursday. The suspect requested the victim buy several department store gift cards and provide the card information. The victim complied with the requests. One of the top signs of a scam is a request for payment in gift cards. A resident in the 400 block of South Mitchell Avenue said he received an email from someone purporting to be with Microsoft security Thursday. The person stated the resident's computer was hacked. The resident was then instructed to wire transfer money to an outside bank account. The victim completed the transfer, contacted his bank and learned he was the victim of a scam. Intoxicated acquaintance A resident in the 100 block of East Vallette Street told police that an acquaintance showed up requesting to be let in about 4 p.m. Friday. The acquaintance appeared to be intoxicated. An officer issued the person a no-trespass notice. Thefts A resident in the 100 block of West Church Street reported Friday that someone removed several campaign signs March 12. The report did not indicate the message on the signs. A mint green Liv Alight 24-inch girls mountain bicycle was stolen from a front yard at 6 p.m. March 13 in the 200 block of East Oneida Avenue. The theft was reported six days later.An unlocked car was burglarized overnight Saturday on Oak Tree Court. Cash was stolen. Driving violations Marquand Williams, 18, of Chicago, was cited about 8:30 p.m. Thursday at North and Route 83 on charges of obstructing identification, no valid driver's license and failure to wear a seat belt. He was released on bond. According to a police report, Williams provided a false name and date of birth. Jorkaef Franco, 21, of Chicago, was cited about 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Ridgeland and North on charges of driving with a suspended license, tinted windows, expired registration, failure to wear a seat belt, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. He was released on bond. Anthony Griffin, 24, of Chicago, was cited about 2 a.m. Friday at Lake and Interstate 290 on charges of no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured vehicle and disobeying a traffic control device. He was released on bond. Roderick White, 42, of East Hazel Crest, was cited bout 3 a.m. Saturday at York and Third on charges of driving with a suspended license and failure to signal. He was released on bond. Raul Gallegos, 42, of Villa Park, was arrested about 7 a.m. Saturday at West and Third on charges of aggravated driving with a revoked license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.Laishamarie Morales, 21, of Roselle, was cited about 2 a.m. Sunday at Roosevelt and Route 83 on charges of no valid driver's license, unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver, illegal transportation of open alcohol and no seat belt. She was released on bond. Shaikeyla Brock, 27, of Bellwood, was cited about 5 p.m. Sunday at Lake and Church on charges of obstructing identification (two counts), driving with a suspended license, unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver, unlawful display of registration, attempted unauthorized possession of registration and no front registration plate. She was released on bond. According to a police report, Brock provided two false names and dates of birth. Briana Meeks, 24, of Chicago, was arrested about 2 a.m. Monday at Route 83 and Interstate 290 on charges of fleeing and eluding officers, disobeying a traffic control device and speeding. She was released to the Wood Dale Police Department. Warrants Abel Medina, 24, of Glen Ellyn, was arrested on a DuPage County Sheriff's Office warrant about 11 a.m. Friday at North and Highland. He was released on bond. James Santana, 21, of Chicago, was cited shortly before midnight Saturday at Route 83 and North on a warrant. He was released on bond. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
