Description

Press release from the City of Golden Valley: March 21, 2021 The City's Police Commission Task Force has reached the community engagement stage of its work and it need your input to continue. Read below ways to get involved and make your voice heard. In July 2020, the Golden Valley City Council developed a Police Commission Task Force (PCTF) with a purpose of creating the mission and bylaws for a new police commission that will replace the City's current Civil Service Commission (CSC). The Council's goal in replacing the CSC is to allow more flexibility in hiring and create new opportunities for communication between the Golden Valley Police Department and the community. Halfway through its term, the Task Force has developed hopes for the new Commission that focus on three key areas: diversified hiring and retention, community engagement, and data collection and transparency. In upcoming meetings, Task Force members will collaborate with staff to create the mission and bylaws for the new Commission. The group will present recommendations to the City Council for approval in early summer. Community Engagement Survey Following its core values of equity of voice and inclusion, the Task Force is seeking community feedback on its work. The group is looking to consult as many different voices as possible to ensure the new Commission's mission and bylaws reflect the needs and wants of Golden Valley's residents and visitors alike. Take this survey by April 2 to make your voice heard. For more information regarding community input, watch the City website, upcoming City newsletters, and publications from other local organizations. To listen the PCTF's first podcast, click here.
