Standoff With Police Follows Buffalo Grove Residential Burglary

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Following a nearly four-hour standoff with police, a Rolling Meadows man is accused of felony residential burglary stemming from an incident Saturday in the 900 block of Beechwood Avenue. Anthony Garcia, 25, has been charged with residential burglary, a Class 1 felony. Police received a call from the homeowners around 7:50 p.m. after they got an alert from a Ring doorbell camera that an unknown person was in the residence. The homeowners were not home at the time. When police arrived at the residence, they found a damaged open window on the lower level of the home and saw a man, later identified as Garcia, inside. Officers identified themselves and attempted to make contact with Garcia, but Garcia ignored attempts and fled to the basement of the residence where he barricaded himself, according to a news release. Officers provided Garcia with numerous opportunities to respond to their requests, but he remained non-compliant, according to the release. The Northern Illinois Police Alarm System and other agencies were requested for assistance with the incident. After establishing contact and through a successful negotiation process, Garcia was taken into custody at 11:41 p.m. Good Evening. There is no active threat to the community or shots fired, the activity is related to a burglary investigation. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved felony residential burglary charges. Garcia remained in custody at the Buffalo Grove Police Department until he was transported to the Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows for his bond hearing Monday, according to the release. Police noted that the department's membership in NIPAS allows for highly trained officers in hostage or barricaded subject negotiations to respond to similar calls. Stay Patched In!
