BERKELEY, CA —The increase of violence against Asian Americans including last week's mass killing in Georgia has galvanized opposition to these race-targeted hate crimes. Earlier this month, 75-year-old Pak Ho died after he was assaulted and robbed in Oakland. The person accused in that case, Teaunte Bailey, was charged with murder by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. The DA's Office has created a Special Response Team as a result of the rise in crimes against Asian Americans. The DA's office wants to hear from you. If you are an Asian American who is the victim of a hate crime, or if you witness such a crime, the first thing to do is call Berkeley Police. Next, call the Hate Crime Hotline set up by the DA's office at 510-208-4824. The Special Response Team is prepared to deal with reports.
