MARIETTA, GA — Marietta residents can voice their opinions this Wednesday on several possible improvements and enhancements planned by the Gateway Marietta Community Improvement District. The GMCID is asking the public to weigh in on several placemaking, wayfinding signage and infrastructure enhancements under evaluation, according to a press release. Business owners, residents and area stakeholders can join the online forum via Zoom March 24 from 6-7 p.m. Stakeholders can also take the GMCID's online survey to provide input on area needs, including redevelopment; traffic and congestion improvements; streetscaping improvements; public safety improvements; and bike and pedestrian infrastructure improvements. "Over the last month we have collaboratively worked with a number of local stakeholders to discuss strategies for placemaking and wayfinding signage to enhance our vibrant and growing community," GMCID Administrator Caroline Whaley said in the release. "It is equally critical that area residents share their thoughts on these exciting options and offer feedback that is reflective of our thriving and diverse community." The GMCID — a self-taxing entity founded in June 2014 supported by local businesses and property owners — enlisted Croy Engineering in late 2020 to explore placemaking and signage in the district, resulting in the Creative Placemaking and CID Signage Study. The responses and opinions gathered during the study's public engagement period, which includes this virtual public forum, will factor into the final recommendation provided to the GMCID. The study is envisioned as a Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) with the Atlanta Regional Commission, designed to encourage efficient and safe movement of pedestrians, bicycles and vehicles in, through and around the district. Future public engagement activities, as part of the study, include a community pop-up event and the distribution of project information at key locations across the GMCID's footprint, the release said.
