Description

I've been a volunteer dog walker at Wake County Animal Shelter since 2007 and it is a wonderful program. We are in desperate need of more volunteer dog walkers. We have an excellent program for dog care at the shelter with many perks for the dogs, but the only time they get out of their kennels is when volunteers come in to walk them. These dogs, otherwise sit in their kennels 24/7 with little interaction unless we come in to take them outside for much needed walks and potty breaks. Many of these dogs are house-trained so it's imperative they keep that up. Also, if you're not up for taking dogs on a walk, we have a very nice huge dog play yard with artificial turf (very clean) that you can take the dogs in. You can simply sit and read a book while the dog plays in the yard. Our team of volunteers is a very cohesive, friendly group. This program is an excellent way to get exercise for yourself in a safe and friendly environment, while providing enrichment and much-needed time out of the kennel for the dogs. I have met some of my best friends for life through this program, so there is a lot more to gain than just the exercise. The shelter takes the upmost care of the dogs (we give baths, we do photo shoots, etc) so it is a very clean and positive environment. You also have a team of existing volunteers and a coordinator that will help you every step of the way. Please see link below and apply if interested.
