Oiler Trainees work aboard a catcher processing vessels in the Bering Sea, Gulf of Alaska and Aleutian Islands. They work under the Chief Engineer and Factory Foreman and assist with conducting repairs, fabrication and maintenance in the factory and other parts of the ship. The oiler trainee works half of shift as a Processor. Duties and Responsibilities as Oiler:Possess sound mechanical knowledge and experience, preferably from fishing vessels or similar processing equipmentAssists with vessel repairs and greasing equipment within the factory including pumps, motors, belts, and conveyorsTroubleshoot problems with equipment onboard the vessel and assesses to determine most effective and efficient means of repairDuring vessel offloads in port; assist with adjusting belts, changing of hoses and filters.Understand and comply with all company safety policies and proceduresMust be available to work both at sea and in the shipyard periodsProcessor Responsibilities:Convert raw product being fished into a frozen-at-sea, marketable product ready for saleSort fish by species, size and conditionTend and operate machineryInspect product to ensure it meets Glacier Fish Company quality standardsPackage, weigh and label productPlace product into freezersOperate and clean factory equipmentParticipate in offload of frozen product at end of tripLoad and unload other supplies on the vesselPhysical Ability and Skills:Work 16 hours per day, 7 days a week in all kinds of weather conditions8 hours in the factory/8 hours with EngineeringUnderstand instructions and safety rules in EnglishBoard and exit vessel without assistance by climbing up and down a gangway or Jacob's ladderCapable of climbing and descending steep stairs and vertical laddersPerform repetitive tasks for long periods of timeBe away from medical attention for up to 3 monthsRepeatedly lift and carry up to 50 poundsShare spaces with others including crew quarters, dining areas and bathroomsTraining Required:OSHA Safety ComplianceLock Out/Tag OutHAZWOPERGlacier Fish Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer - Minority / Women / Disability / Veteran / Gender Identity / Sexual Orientation / Age.
