Reagan Ranch. The goal of this organization is to rescue capitalism from what they perceive as the reign of socialism in this country. Hmmmm... The number of workers covered by unions is at its lowest point since the thirties and continuing to drop. Is this socialism? Income and wealth inequality are at the level of the Gilded Age just prior to the Great Depression. Is this socialism? Within corporations, the gap between highest and lowest wages keeps increasing, seemingly without limit. Is this socialism? The U.S. government is committed to toppling foreign governments that it deems too far to the left. Is this socialism? On any given night, over half a million Americans experience homelessness. Is this socialism? Well... In my opinion, a socialist government would encourage workers to unionize. It would strive to keep inequality at a reasonable level. It would respect the decisions of foreign people and their leaders on how to run their own countries. It would make sure that as close as possible to all its citizens have a roof over their heads. In short, a socialist government would put human welfare over profits. But that is decidedly NOT what we have in this country.
