Shostakovich's thrilling Piano Quintet is paired with Bach's Sonata for Viola da Gamba in G Minor. The deeply personal music of Dmitri Shostakovich and the studied objectivity of the music of J. S. Bach makes them seem like odd companions. But Shostakovich was deeply inspired by Bach's work and this program features works by the two composers in the key of G Minor.
