Doctor Turned Crystal Meth Dealer Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — A federal judge in Miami sentenced a former emergency room physician from Fort Lauderdale to 10 years in federal prison for dealing crystal methamphetamine, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release. Carlton Cash, 49, was charged and convicted of selling more than 150 grams of crystal meth in Broward County over an eight-month period starting in 2019, the DOJ said. He holds an active Florida medical license. Public records show that Cash has also held medical licenses in Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, New York, Michigan and Mississippi, the DOJ said. Cash worked as an emergency room physician until 2014 when he was declared disabled due to injuries he suffered in a 2004 car accident. After that, he began receiving $15,000 each month in disability payments, the DOJ said. In the year prior to his arrest, Cash purchased about $100,000 worth of crystal meth to resell. In December, he pled guilty to five counts of possession with the intent to distribute crystal meth, the DOJ said.
