HUNTINGTON, NY — A pop-up coronavirus vaccination site opened at the Town of Huntington Senior Center on Monday, and 500 doses of the Moderna vaccine will be administered by appointment over the next two days, the town announced Monday. "We are pleased to be able to offer a large, safe vaccination site at the Town's Senior Center, something we have been working on with the Governor's office for some time now," Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci stated. New Yorkers aged 60 and over can make appointments for the vaccine at the town's senior center, at 423 Park Ave., Huntington. As of Sunday, there were roughly 80 appointments available for Tuesday. The deadline to make a Tuesday appointment is 3 p.m. Monday. Residents interested in getting vaccinated can call the center at 631-351-3253 between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday to make an appointment. Second doses are scheduled to be administered April 19 and 20. Lupinacci was joined by Councilman Ed Smyth, Town of Huntington officials, representatives of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office, and Sun River Health for a news conference at noon Monday. Lupinacci in January sent a letter signed by the Huntington Town Board to Cuomo's office offering the town's senior center as a COVID-19 vaccination site due to the space, parking and refrigeration facilities available. The senior center, which was largely vacant due to the pandemic, was determined to have a spacious cafeteria, numerous classrooms, bathrooms, refrigerators, heating and air conditioning, and plentiful parking spaces suitable to be a pop-up vaccination site.
