CEMETERY GROUNDS CREW MEMBER As part of the full-time Elmhurst Cemetery Grounds Crew, you will perform duties related to internments (burials) & grounds keeping which includes; lawn mowing, weed trimming, tree trimming, gardening, snow removal and maintenance matters related to the cemetery. Helping to maintain the overall appearance of the cemetery. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES • Mows grass, plows snow, waters lawns, trims shrubs and tends flower beds. • Operates lawn and grounds equipment including push & riding lawn mowers, snow blowers, weed whips, leaf blowers and other related power equipment. • Removes debris & trash from cemetery grounds. This will include removing wilted flowers, collecting vases and other temporary decorations from individual gravesites. • Assists with the opening and closing for interments (burials) and inurnments. • Assist with the location and layout of individual graves using lot books and grave opening orders. • May perform minor repairs on equipment, cemetery grounds and buildings. • May operate tractor with backhoe or dump truck (with plow) after training. • Must follow safety rules and ensure compliance with the operating procedures of federal, state and local regulations, including OSHA regulations and Safety and Environmental guidelines • May assist in moving and installing burial vaults. • May work occasional Saturdays for burials. • Must work all 3 days of Memorial Day Weekend MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education • High school diploma or equivalent Experience • Minimum 12 months continued work, outdoor groundskeeping/landscaping experience preferred, basic understanding of riding lawnmowers, weed trimmers & snow blowers helpful. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment, including, but not limited to a shovel, pick, rake, lawn mower, weed trimmer and leaf blower • Ability to accurately use measuring devices (i.e. tape measure) • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions • Physically agile and dexterous • Ability to operate equipment in a safe and careful manner • Ability to effectively work with others to accomplish tasks • Ability to communicate with associates, personnel and client families • Ability to team lift up to 50lbs. • Valid motor vehicle license preferred
