FOUND DOG NO COLLAR/TAG

I'm no expert in dogs so I have no idea the breed, possibly a German Shepard. I found him by Charley's Famous Hamburgers (8213 Broadway, Lemon Grove, CA 91945) on broadway digging through trash for food. I'll be taking him to a veterinarian tomorrow to check for chips. Otherwise I unfortunately have no idea what I will do. Nails were recently clipped, beautiful dog very kind animal, seemed pretty skinny for a recent escape. If you have any idea who's dog it may be or willing to take him in I'll gladly do that over taking him to the pound. I will walk the area with him in hopes of finding a neighbor in the area with any knowledge. Any advice please feel free to reach out.
