Hunter Park Ball Field Renamed To Honor Former Brave Terry Harper

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Douglasville renamed a baseball field at Hunter Park Saturday in honor of longtime Atlanta Brave and Douglasville native Terry Harper. Harper graduated from Douglas County High School and signed to play with the Braves in 1973, eventually spending 16 years with the organization in various capacities. Harper also played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers. After playing outfielder in the big leagues, Harper worked as a coach, helping individuals and teams improve their hitting skills. According to a news release from the City of Douglasville, Harper coached the Greenville Braves, the Douglasville Bulls and various youth and high-school teams. Harper also has helped international baseball through his nonprofit organization, International Sports Connection. Through this organization, Harper has been able to provide support to low-income youth baseball players in Douglas County, the Dominican Republic and other Caribbean islands. "We are so excited to be able to recognize local legend Terry Harper in this way," said Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Chris Bass. "He has had such an impact on baseball in our community, and we thought it was only fitting that we rename a baseball field in his honor."
