2 'Sweep The Hooch' Community Cleanups Planned In Brookhaven

BROOKHAVEN, GA — Residents can help "sweep the hooch" (also known as the Chattahoochee River) this weekend at two locations in Brookhaven. The 11th annual Sweep the Hooch river cleanup — organized by Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CRK)— will take place at various locations along the Chattahoochee River, including at Murphey Candler Park and the Peachtree Creek Greenway. The cleanups run from 9 a.m. to noon this Saturday at the two parks, as well as the dozens of other locations along the river. Sweep the Hooch is an annual watershed-wide litter cleanup that brings together hundreds of volunteers each year at more than 50 parks, tributaries and access points along the river, a CRK press release said. Residents can sign up to volunteer at the Brookhaven locations by visiting the Sweep the Hooch registration site and filling out the required forms, as well as visiting this website for the Murphey Candler Park cleanup and this website for the Peachtree Creek Greenway cleanup. Volunteers will get a Sweep the Hooch T-shirt. Registration to volunteer for the cleanup closes March 24.
