Seasonal Vector Control Technician I Vector Control Technicians will be assigned duties that support the District’s mission to protect public health. Duties will involve field work and require driving a District vehicle on a variety of paved and unpaved roads in various weather conditions. For a complete job description, please visit: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: -- Inspect areas for immature and adult mosquito presence or habitat -- Collect mosquito larvae samples from a variety of habitats -- Pesticide applications of vector control sites when needed -- Operate hand and power spraying equipment -- Maintain accurate records of activities -- Safely operate and navigate District vehicles to perform work-related tasks. May be required to drive a right-hand drive vehicle. -- Follow all safety protocols including the proper use of personal protective equipment when required -- General maintenance/repair of assigned equipment, workspace, and District vehicles. May be assigned to assist in maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds. -- Performing physical labor such as brushing creeks, cutting footpaths for inspection access, lifting sewer and storm drain covers, and any other required tasks. -- Other duties as assigned Minimum Requirements It is the applicant’s responsibility to identify in their application materials how they meet the minimum qualifications/requirements listed below: -- Must be at least 18 years of age or older. -- Must have a valid California Driver License at the time of employment with a good driving record. A DMV printout is required. Must be insurable under the guidelines set by the District’s insurance carrier. -- Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screening. -- Ability to interact professionally and effectively with peers, supervisors, and the public. -- Ability to follow oral and written instructions. -- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. -- Ability to read and write at a level required for successful job performance. -- Ability to operate standard business computer hardware, mobile devices, and related software applications. -- Must be able to work independently. Desirable Qualifications Knowledge of: -- Safety Data Sheets and pesticide labeling information -- Familiarity with the principles of Integrated Vector Management Experience and/or training in: -- Application equipment -- Related biological field work -- Vector control or related field Examination and Selection Process Applications will be reviewed as they are received and interviews will be scheduled during regular office hours (Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). Selection will be based on a combined overall assessment of the oral interview and written application/resume. Pre-employment Screening A pre-employment physical and drug test will be required. Delta Vector Control District is committed to maintaining a drug and alcohol-free workplace. Terms of Position This is a paid position, not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year. The work term corresponds to the mosquito season which starts in March or April and typically ends in October or November.
