Experienced Vocalist
Meets
Baton Rouge LA
Description
Group of top notch, seasoned, and serious, experienced South Baton Rouge musicians, both academic and self-taught. Currently we have keys/lead female vocalist, lead G, bass( both BU vocals), and drums. Our female vocalist plays keys but we’d like to have her fronting the group more. Seeking a second vocalist, if you’re an alto w rhythm guitar talent - excellent slot for you. You’ll need to sing lead some, “ hear”, remember and do backup harmonies, blend your voice, and cover other vocalists across our several genres, but we also genuinely appreciate personal styles. - perform traditionally, read from charts or lead sheets, - learn from memory - if you can improvise and be aware that some popular songs have “musical hooks” that our paying audience expects to hear, - willing to join and commit to our group, giving us top priority for gigs, - good musical and relationship history, like music and performing, - want to be in a high quality group for a long time, - NO "artistic arrogance", - available for and willing to attend practice, - want to play for audiences who want to dance and enjoy themselves, and like all genres, we would very much like to talk with you. We love playing and performing and all of us have an impressive history, decades of experience. This is a re-boot of a group where Covid, distance, cancelled gigs and competing priorities became obstacles. Some of our old members and some new members, fewer obstacles, even LESS drama than we had before( 0), and more friendships, music and fun. Plan is to choose our members carefully, meet and become acquainted through Covid, plan sets and learn music individually, then convene after Covid restrictions. First get togethers were very promising. We need a good fit with the group, trustworthy, diligent, reliable, good audience interaction, flexibility and "nice-ness". We are a NO-DRAMA group, safe, professional and serious. No drunks, drugs, smoking in the practice room or on stage, or bad manners. Practice will be every week, South Baton Rouge. This is not a “HIRE” for pay. We want a GROUP member, willing to focus on OUR group, practice weekly, learn music BEFORE the practice and gigs, contribute in any way you are able, musically, gig contacts, equipment, audience interaction, style of the group, entertaining…. Pay comes from gigs, and our goal is to become a band of top choice in 3 LOCAL arenas: Wedding ceremonies and receptions, Corporate and Private events, Louisiana Fairs and Festivals. We aren’t a “touring” group.... maybe from Texas to Miss along the I-10 corridor but no “touring.” Our local Baton Rouge members are not full time playing prof, but we want a full time prof sound. We have a state of the art QSC PA system and Presonus Mixer, cables, mic stands. You need to furnish your own mic and any instrumental gear. We are a TRUE variety band, 1940s - Top 40 today. Repertoire is most genres, pop, rock, swamp, cajun, country, R&B, latin, big band and, old standards...and open to originals, up-tempo, medium, slow. No techno, rap, metal. We have a very specific method of selecting repertoire based on audience response, and your suggestions will need to fit our guidelines, although we are open to ANY ideas. We will perform as entertainers, helping our audiences have déjà vu....re-live the good times in their lives, good dance music, and our Goal is to play for audience entertainment, get paid, and get hired again...Interested? Talent. Enthusiasm. Band Experience. Mature minded. Repertoire flexibility. Availability. NO DRAMA. Currently, we have only a few rules(might be more in the future): Rule 1: Anyone can submit music for consideration, your “signature” songs, favorites, those that in your experience have had top audience reactions, those you know are high in You tube hits or on Billboard charts…..BUT, as the leader, I will choose which songs we learn in which order to keep drama low, and so we can we need to learn and practice in SETS, not random songs….to speed our preparation time and keep theband focused. 2. No drunks, drugs, “professional-have-to-pay-the-rent singers”, bad manners, drama, singer-for-hire syndrome, questionable reliability, family, job, etc hang ups. 3. Learn your music before practice, show up, do your job as part of our performing group. 4. Everyone helps load in and load out. 5. We want any contacts you have for gigs, but ALL gigs are booked through me to avoid conflicts and to assure fee integrity. Contact: Tom Parsons txt
