Description
The City of Garfield enacted an ordinance on February 23rd by a 3-2 vote that bans residents from feeding or caring for any unlicensed outdoor cat. While the city did have issues with the group previously running the TNR program, a reputable and highly respected TNR organization offered to run the program properly. Instead, Garfield will allow outdoor cats to go hungry and for many of their kittens to die on the streets. Even worse, the city will use failed catch and kill policies and the contracted shelter, Bergen County Animal Shelter, will kill many of these cats.
Bergen County Animal Shelter must step up and refuse to contract with Garfield unless it revokes this ordinance and allows TNR again.
Please keep writing to the following Garfield officials to demand they overturn their cat killing anti-TNR ordinance.
