GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending March 16. March 10 Police investigated two reports of victims' identities being used to open auto insurance policies without their knowledge or consent.Graffiti was found on the north side of the Tanners Pond Road bridge.A victim reports a credit card was opened in his name without his permission or knowledge.A victim reports there was an unauthorized online money transaction against his debit card account. March 11 Police received a report of someone filing a false tax return by using the identity of another person. March 12 Upon investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a 47-year-old man for entering a St. Joseph's Church storeroom on March 11 and stealing an iPad and money, and for entering the same location on March 12 and attempting to remove money from a collection box. He was charged with burglary, criminal mischief and attempted larceny.Officers investigated a road rage incident on Stewart Avenue at Nassau Boulevard where a man reportedly exited his car and then threatened two female occupants of another vehicle after throwing a bottle at them.Officers investigated a report of a person's identity being used to open multiple unauthorized credit card accounts. March 13 Officers investigated three reports of thefts from vehicles in the Garden Street, Willow Street and College Place area. A bike was reported stolen from a Garden Street residence and later recovered on College Place. A 40-year-old driver was arrested on Stewart Avenue for driving with a suspended license due to a prior DWI, defective headlamps and an outstanding Nassau County warrant for assault.Upon investigation of a November 19, 2020 incident, Garden City detectives arrested a 23-year-old man for unauthorized use of a car, criminal possession of stolen property and leaving the scene of an accident. The man stole a vehicle in Queens, drove to Garden City, crashed into another vehicle and then fled the scene. March 14 A 20-year-old man was arrested for driving with a suspended license on Clinton Road at Chestnut Street, as well as excessive speed, possession of a forged registration, unregistered vehicle and uninsured vehicle.Officers were assigned to traffic and safety details for a protest on Franklin Avenue and 15th Street. March 15 Officers responded to Nassau Boulevard and South Avenue for a malfunctioning traffic signal.A victim reported her identity was used to open multiple unauthorized bank accounts.A 32-year-old driver was charged with driving on Cathedral Avenue with a forged registration, unregistered vehicle, uninsured vehicle, improper plates, loud exhaust system and tinted windows.A victim's identity was used to open an unauthorized credit card account. March 16 Officers arrested a 50-year-old woman for failing to pay for a multi-day stay at the Garden City Hotel. She was charged with theft of services and criminal possession of a controlled substance (cocaine). A sanitation company was cited for the operation of a truck on Old Country Road with multiple weight violations, leaking hydraulic fluid and a loose winch cable.
