The course intent is to give the practicing clinician an evidenced based approach to managing patients who present with pain in the cervical The course intent is to give the practicing clinician an evidenced based approach to managing patients who present with pain in the cervical region and/or caused by a condition of the cervical region. An evidence based approach will be utilized to determine how to select the best tests when assessing the cervical spine.Evidence-based intervention will include the optimum manual techniques for each condition as well as discuss integration of manual techniques with other interventions such as exercise, modalities, etc. Case examples will be reviewed and lab sessions will allow participants to practice exam and intervention techniques. Therapists will learn how to correctly classify their patients so as to increase their likelihood of successful treatment in patients with neck or upper limb pain coming from the cervical spine. Therapists will also learn how to use Clinical Practice Guidelines when making clinical decisions for their patients. The ultimate aim of this course is to assist therapists in synthesizing information to effectively examine, evaluate, make a differential diagnosis, select the most appropriate tests using evidence, make a realistic prognosis with classification, and choose an effective intervention based on clinical reasoning, best available evidence, and patient preferences.
