Robotics Challenge is a 5-day program offered in-person with limited enrollment!
OVERVIEW
Robotics Challenge offers students years old an exciting introduction to mechanics and coding through hands-on learning using LEGO WeDo robotics and Scratch programming language.
In addition to acquiring new knowledge, students will practice and strengthen the following competencies:
Teamwork and communicationCreative and operational thinkingLogical and analytical problem-solving
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
Instructors begin each day with a preview of the key concepts to be covered, but the bulk of each day is reserved for students to engage in hands-on construction and experimentation.During each session, every student will complete two projects specifically designed to apply their new knowledge.Throughout, instructors pose open-ended questions to stimulate critical thinking and creativity, facilitate discussion, and provide support for independent and group problem-solving.Days 1-2: Students are introduced to the mechanics of robot construction with an emphasis on various gear types and their interactions. Students will also be introduced to simple coding in the LEGO WeDo environment. This portion of the program culminates with students building a project with a more complex gear system.
Days 3-4: Students are introduced to the basics of robotics programming with Scratch.
Day 5: Reserved for students to create their own “jousting robots” designed to topple the competition! Students will then test, problem-solve, and optimize their robots both independently and as a group, providing each other with feedback and suggestions.
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday Mornings from 9am-12pm
