NEW CASSEL, NY — Several good Samaritans helped a 41-year-old man after he was beaten and robbed of his cell phone and money in New Cassel on Friday, Nassau County police said. Detectives said that at about 10 p.m., the man was walking on Prospect Avenue near State Street, when he was approached by a black man, whom he did not know, and at the same time, he was grabbed from behind by another two men. The first suspect "struck the man with his fist," causing him "to fall to the ground," police said. The three attackers ran away in an unknown direction, leaving the man unconscious, police said. Police said that the man "lost consciousness for a brief period," and when he awoke, he noticed that his cell phone and an "undetermined amount" of money had been stolen from him. Several good Samaritans helped him, and eventually, a relative arrived and drove him to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for a cut lip, and called 911, police said. The first suspect has been described as a black man about 30 years old, who was wearing a gray sweatshirt, and a red mask, police said. A description for the other two suspects was not available to police. Detectives are requesting anyone with information about the robbery to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers, a confidential police hotline, at 1-800-244–TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
