Press release from the City of Northfield: March 19, 2021 City Administrator Ben Martig introduced the students during the program. Mayor Rhonda Pownell and Mayor Pro Tem Jessica Peterson White selected the winning essays based on creativity and originality. This year's essay question focuses on leadership traits. The students were asked, if you were Mayor for a Day, what three leadership character traits would be the most important to have to be a great leader for the City of Northfield. Please give an example of how a leader that you have learned about in history has led with the three character traits you selected. The winners are: Camille Hohman, 4th grader from Greenvale Park Elementary Mackenzie Lambert, 4th grader from Sibley Elementary Ella Rich, 4th grader from Sibley Elementary Thisbe Jothen, 5th grader from Greenvale Park Elementary Aela Morgan, 5th grader from Bridgewater Elementary Isabella Moreno, 5th grader from Bridgewater Elementary Each student will receive, $20 Chamber bucks, a certificate of recognition signed by Mayor Pownell and Mayor Pro Tem Peterson White, and, a ride on the City of Northfield float in the Defeat of Jesse James Days Parade. The Mayor for a Day Essay Contest is a fun way to engage local 4th and 5th grade students in civic engagement. The City of Northfield thanks all students who participated in the 2021competition, along with teachers, parents, and others who encouraged them to submit an essay. Essays are displayed at City Hall and the Northfield Public Library. The public can watch a video of the students read their essays on the city's YouTube channel or on Northfield Public Broadcasting throughout the year.
