LAKEWOOD, OH — State Sen. Nickie Antonio received her first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on Friday.
Antonio, who calls Lakewood home, received her vaccine at the Discount Drug Mart in Lakewood. During her visit, Antonio also received a walk-through of the pharmacy's COVID-19 vaccine storage and distribution process.
"Getting the Covid-19 vaccine is the first step forward in our long road to recovery from this pandemic," Antonio said. "I encourage my neighbors, families and friends to get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible."
Discount Drug Mart has 76 locations in Ohio offering COVID-19 vaccinations. Other pharmacy chains and mass vaccination sites are distributing the vaccine to Ohioans. Appointments can be scheduled through the state's COVID-19 vaccine website.
More than 22.5 percent of Ohioans have received at least the first part of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the state health department. More than 13 percent of Ohioans have received both COVID-19 vaccine shots.
As of Friday afternoon, 2.64 million Ohioans had received at least the first shot of the two-part COVID-19 vaccine; and 1.52 million Ohioans have completed the vaccination process.
"I am thrilled to see more vaccinations available," Antonio said. "Even as more people get vaccinated, it is important to continue practicing social distancing and wearing facial coverings, following the guidelines, so we may truly overcome Covid-19."
