Press release from the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce : 03/18/2021 The 32nd Annual Carroll County Outstanding Teacher Awards To Be Broadcast on March 24, 2021 March 18, 2021—The Carroll County Outstanding Teacher Awards, a program sponsored by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, will be broadcast on March 24, 2021 at 6 p.m. The teachers are full-time employees of the Carroll County Public School System. The event will be pre-recorded this year at the studio of the Community Media Center in Westminster. On March 24, the broadcast will be streamed on the CMC YouTube and Facebook sites, and will be broadcast on cable channels 19 and 1086. In previous years, the event was held in person. Selection of the Chamber's Outstanding Teacher Awards follows a process of selecting eight teachers from a pool of several hundred for recognition. First, teachers who work full-time for Carroll County Public Schools can be nominated by a parent, student, or school administrator. Teachers who wish to participate submit a biographical form, as well as an answer to an essay question. This year, 722 teachers who were nominated will receive certificates of excellence for their nominations. From that group of 722, eight teachers will be selected for the Chamber's Carroll County Outstanding Teacher Awards. Teams of judges, including retired teachers and Chamber members, review the biographical information and essay questions that were submitted by the teachers. The eight teachers selected for the award receive plaques and cash prizes. This group of awardees then becomes eligible for the Carroll County Teacher of the Year. The process for that selection includes an interview with a panel of judges, to include a series of questions and a written packet with several essays. The final Teacher of the Year selection follows the guidelines of the MARYLAND Teacher of the Year program. On March 24, the eight awardees will be announced during the CMC broadcast. In addition, the Chamber also awards three scholarships for teacher continuing education, which are announced on March 24, as well. Mike McMullin, president and CEO of the Chamber, said, "Teachers have a tough job with little thanks in a normal year. 2020 was anything but a normal year, and it's only fitting to recognize them for their outstanding effort during the pandemic." Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steven Lockard said, "We are very proud of our long-standing partnership with the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, especially when it comes to the annual outstanding teacher awards. It is always a pleasure for us to honor our teachers for their dedication and commitment to our students. This awards program is an excellent opportunity for us to acknowledge the teachers who go above and beyond, and make a positive difference in the lives of students."
