STAMFORD, CT — St. Patrick's Day in Stamford was celebrated differently again this year thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but the holiday did not go on without a special socially distanced musical tribute that in the city's downtown district. The Stamford Downtown Special Services District hosted a pop-up concert on Wednesday. The event featured the Fairfield County Police Pipes and Drums, which performed in the window of a storefront at 296 Bedford Street before a socially distanced audience. The Police Pipes and Drums was founded on St. Patrick's Day in 2014 and all members of the group are current or past Fairfield County police officers. The performance was amplified on speakers that were placed on the sidewalk before the band also performed on the sidewalk for a brief concert and then marched up Bedford Street. Organizers said the event provided a safe way to celebrate the St. Patrick's Day holiday. Organizers are planning more window pop-up concert events in the future to bring music and joy to the downtown district.
