PRINCETON, NJ — New Jersey has been expanding the number of publicly listed COVID-19 vaccination sites regularly. The locations in Mercer County have also grown in the past few weeks. Some are accepting appointments directly, but some are not. But the state has suggested reaching out to those sites and seeing if getting an appointment is possible (see the county's list of vaccine sites below). New Jersey now has access to three COVID-19 vaccines — Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. The county will administer the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine to the "homebound, disabled and elderly." Beginning March 15, the following additional categories are eligible for the vaccine. Public and local transportation workers, including bus, taxi, rideshare, and airport employees; NJ TRANSIT workers and Motor Vehicle Commission staff;Public safety workers, including those who are not sworn law enforcement or fire professionals, probation officers and fire safety inspectors;Migrant farm workers;Members of tribal communities;People experiencing homelessness and those living in shelters, including domestic violence shelters. As of Friday 117,301 vaccine doses have been administered to Mercer County residents, of which 81,990 were first doses. A total of 35,294 residents are now fully vaccinated. Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said the state plans to increase the number of vaccination sites beyond 300. State officials have said the goal is to vaccinate 70 percent of the adult population by the spring. CVS and Rite Aid are now offering the coronavirus vaccines, and a number of towns have been identified as locations. Gov. Phil Murphy announced that New Jersey has created a county-by-county vaccine hub that reports the number of immunizations across the state. "We're working strategically and efficiently to vaccinate our frontline health care workers, law enforcement and fire professionals and long-term care center residents and staff," he said.
