NEWARK, NJ — The Newark NAACP hosted a virtual forum for candidates in the 2021 Newark Public School District school board election on Thursday (watch the video below).
Local voters will decide three open seats on the board on Tuesday, April 20.
Voters will also take part in a special election for a fourth seat. According to Ballotpedia, a special election was called after board member Tave Padilla died in November 2020. Vereliz Santana was appointed to the seat in January 2021. Her term will end after the April 20 election. The winner of the special election will serve the last year of Padilla's term.
In addition, voters will be asked to approve or reject the district's budget for the next school year.
