Book a private, self-guided tour through the Smith-McDowell House. To comply with social distancing guidelines and for the safety of our guests, staff, and volunteers, we will reopen beginning Saturday, September 19, 2020 for timed, private, self-guided tours. To tour the house, you must book a tour time before arriving at the house. When you book a tour, you are reserving the house for your party. No other guests will be able to enter the house during your tour. A docent will greet you and give you an introduction and be available to answer questions. Your admission includes a 24-page tour booklet. By booking a tour, you also receive access to our temporary exhibit on western North Carolina during World War I, which includes sections on the 1918 flu epidemic and women's suffrage. Your time in the house is limited to one hour so as to leave time for staff to disinfect and clean before and after your visit.
