SANTA MONICA, CA — Santa Monica Friday extended its local emergency through April 30 due to the pandemic, city officials announced. The move pushes back local emergency orders and adding the city's thirty-fourth emergency supplement signed Friday. "The supplement comes as Santa Monica steps into the earliest days of recovery as it makes strides to reopen from the public health emergency and COVID-19 vaccination eligibility and supplies continue to expand," the city reports. As of March 10, 17,154 people in Santa Monica were vaccinated, city officials told Patch. Every vaccine administered means we are one step closer to communitywide recovery. "With COVID rates decreasing and vaccination increasing, LA County has moved into the Red Tier of reopening and we can begin to ease the emergency orders implemented just over a year ago," said Interim City Manager, Lane Dilg, in a statement. "As we move into these first stages of recovery, my hope is that we as a community will continue to support and lift up one another." The Thirty-Fourth supplement's does not extend certain provisions of prior emergency orders, with the result that: Temporary curbside pickup zones for businesses other than restaurants will not be allowed after March 31, 2021 Imposition of late payment penalties for unpaid or delinquent Transient Occupancy Taxes collected for periods beginning on or after November 1, 2020 may resume as of April 1, 2021 The eviction moratorium for commercial tenant 1s will apply only to rent that became due through March 31, 2021, and will not apply to rent that becomes due after that date.
