PROVIDENCE, RI — As Rhode Island starts to lift coronavirus restrictions across the state, spectators will again be allowed to attend youth sports games. Effective Monday, the Rhode Island Interscholastic League will eliminate the previous no-spectator policy. Spectators have been limited at youth sports games for months. Initially, no spectators were allowed at all, though that rule was relaxed earlier this year to allow parents to attend games in a limited capacity. The new policy applies to on-campus gymnasiums. Schools are encouraged to consult the reopeningRI website to see the latest guidance for sports. Individual school districts and sports facilities have the right to set their own policies for spectators, based on their capacity and ability to follow safety guidelines, the league said.
