DOYLESTOWN, PA — Gov. Tom Wolf will tour a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit, where thousands of teachers and school staff are receiving the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The governor's trip Friday comes one week after the IU became one of the first of the 28 regional education agencies in the state to be turned into a vaccination clinic for school workers. At the governor's orders, the state Department of Health allocated 94,000 doses of the vaccine for school employees, of which there are roughly 200,000 in the state. Bucks County received 4,700 of those doses, which will cover almost half of the school employee population countywide. The Bucks County Intermediate Unit, located at 705 N. Shady Retreat Road, in Doylestown, provides programs to public and private K-12 schools, school districts and communities in Bucks County. Executive Director Mark Hoffman said the organization was pleased to support the state's vaccination effort. Wolf toured the Berks County IU site in Reading on Monday, where he described the ultimate goal as being able to offer every public and private school worker a vaccine to help more students return to the classroom. But well before the governor announced his plan to vaccinate teachers, many school districts in Bucks County decided to bring students back to school. The Central Bucks and Council Rock school districts, the two largest in the county, have held in-person instruction since October and January, respectively. The governor's press conference is scheduled for 12 p.m. For more information about getting a coronavirus vaccine in Pennsylvania, visit Patch's information hub.
