CHICAGO, IL— An attempted robbery of an armored vehicle ended in gunfire Friday morning in the 4900 block W. North Avenue, Chicago police said. According to police, a security guard from an armored truck was emptying an ATM when one of two passengers from a dark SUV approached the guard with a handgun and demanded money. The security guard then took out his own gun and fired shots, striking the person in the "center of his torso area," police said. A spokesperson from the FBI confirmed the incident occurred at the BMO Harris bank in North Austin and that the Bureau has responded. Chicago police said the offender then entered back into the SUV and fled westbound on W. North Ave. There are no other reported injuries at this time. The armored truck belongs to GardaWorld. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Patch.
