IREDELL COUNTY, NC — Middle school and high school students in grades 6-12 will have the option to return to in-person classroom instruction five days a week beginning April 7, Iredell-Statesville Schools announced.
The move follows Gov. Roy Cooper's signing of a senate bill prioritizing in-person instruction in North Carolina schools. Students in grades K-5 have attended in-person instruction five days a week since October.

"We are grateful to Governor Cooper and our elected officials for their support of a full return to school. Our students need to be in school five days a week," ISS Superintendent Jeff James said in a statement.
Families of students will continue to have a choice between in-person and remote learning, but will be asked to commit to a format, ISS said.
"Families can either return to school five days a week, or they can choose to complete the school year virtually 5 days a week. A hybrid schedule will no longer be an option beginning April 7, 2021," the school district said.
ISS estimates that up to 20 percent of Iredell-Statesville students will remain in a remote learning schedule.
