UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The Broadway Mall Association is organizing a clean-up session this weekend on the Upper West Side. The event will kick off at 10 a.m. on Sunday in front of Metro Diner at the corner of 100th Street and Broadway. The association is tackling the clean-up process with Spring just around the corner, as more people are expected to soon be spending added time outside. Members of the association and volunteers will focus on cleaning the bench areas in the middle of Broadway from 96th to 106th Streets. The clean-up session will last until noon, and garbage bags, gloves, tools, and masks will be provided. You can sign up by emailing [email protected]. The Broadway Mall Association has worked for 30 years to "beautify and maintain" the malls on the famous avenue. The association focuses the majority of its work on the Upper West Side, Morningside Heights, West Harlem, and Washington Heights. The Broadway Mall Association's mission statement reads as follows: "To complement and enhance the long-standing mission of the Broadway Mall Association to beautify and maintain the malls of Broadway with sculpture of quality created by artists working at the highest level (where possible, artists and work new to the New York City streetscape). Sculpture installations reflect the vernacular of Broadway, and engage its distinctive, diverse communities, while attracting new visitors to Broadway as a destination." You can find out more about the Broadway Mall Association and its event on Sunday on its website.
