Assignment Type: Temporary Tentative Dates: 4/1/2021 – 08/18/2021 Hourly Rate: $21.43 H&W: $4.27 Location: Sterling Heights, MI Work Hours: 6:00am-6:00pm Position Description: BAE Systems, one of the world's leading Defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 company, is hiring an experienced Track Armored Vehicle Welder & Assembly Technician to work on our combat vehicles. The Armored Vehicle Technician IV is a technician who has diesel mechanic knowledge on tracked vehicles. It would be a plus to have TIG, MIG, Flux-Cored & Stick welding experience. Diesel mechanic knowledge/experience on tracked vehicles is recommended or some type of assembler Technician work experience. Occasional Staggered 1st & 2nd Shift may be required. Current position is 1st shift. Responsibilities: TIG, MIG, Flux-Cored & Stick welding experience preferred. • Systems Assembly and Integration that includes sub-component fabrication, inspection, test, vehicle maintenance and field support tasks conducted by Sterling Heights Prototype shop personnel. • Provides direct support to design engineering through the entire product development life cycle. • Works from and reads engineering drawings, sketches, samples and verbal instructions. • Performs layout using shop math, fundamental blueprint reading and hand book data. • Fabricates and builds parts, assemblies, shop aids and templates from a variety of materials. • Uses hand tools and hand power tools. Sets up and operates equipment for: shearing, sawing, routing, punching, drilling, forming, rolling and grinding, etc. • Receives assistance and guidance on only the most complicated work. • Selects all tools and materials necessary and sets up and operates all prototype shop equipment necessary to complete tasks, and performs all necessary maintenance on equipment with minimal supervision. • Notes and reports variances or discrepancies in drawings or work and report them to the supervisor or appropriate person(s). • Operates all existing product line combat vehicles and experimental vehicles both on site and at field locations. • Operates forklift, overhead cranes, jib cranes and hoists. • Gives full attention to the safety prevention of personal injury and prevention of injury to others. Required Experience: Some TIG, MIG, Flux-Cored & Stick welding experience is a plus. • Technical skills in the performance of Assembly, Disassembly, Integration, Fabrication and Testing in the Evaluation, Repair, and Maintenance of military ground combat vehicles and other tracked vehicle and associated accessory equipment. • Application of overall mechanical, electrical and component fabrication knowledge to include welding and machining processes also sought. • Painting experience with MILSPEC and CARC paint also sought as secondary skill. • Conformance of all products to specifications and processes expected. • Comprehensive knowledge to manufacture, assemble, inspect and repair as appropriate. Preferred Experience: Previous experience working on Tracked Armored or Heavy Large Wheeled Military Vehicles is being sought. • Heavy diesel engine mechanic theory and troubleshooting experience or military MOS credibility with tracked vehicle mechanics/crew member MOSs from active duty service is a required substitute. • Experience working as a CARC Painter or welder is a plus. • BAE is a veteran preferred hiring company. • Prior experience working as a Field Service Representative (FSR) on BAE Systems combat vehicles a plus. Education Requirements: High School Diploma and eight years of relevant work experience. Education Preferred: US Military tracked vehicle crew member/mechanic MOS and 4-6 years of MOS experience and credibility preferred.
