Description

Press release from the New York Public Library: March 18, 2021 A Statement from Anthony W. Marx, president of The New York Public Library: We have issued the following public statement: The New York Public Library strongly decries the continuing and increasing acts of violence and discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders that have occurred in our city, state, and country for the past year. The hate and ignorance that have fueled these appalling attacks and the racism and xenophobia accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic cannot be tolerated. We stand in solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities and pledge to continue our work, together with our local communities and organizations, to combat racism and xenophobia and to encourage all to learn and to live with one another. We will continue through our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access work to evaluate ways as an institution we can further combat racism and xenophobia. We encourage our community to refer to the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association's Statement Against Anti-Asian Violence and its 2021 COVID-19 anti-xenophobia and anti-racist information resources for further information. This press release was produced by the New York Public Library. The views expressed are the author's own.
