NORRISTOWN, PA — Renters and landlords impacted by COVID-19 can now apply for funding to help cover rent and utility costs in Montgomery County. The relief program, which was also in place months ago during the height of the pandemic, is eligible for those who are at or below 80 percent of the area median income. Funding can assist with rent and utility bills dating back to March 13, 2020, and can also cover future rent payments and security deposit. If you're eligible, there's no limit. "We know that many people across Montgomery County are still facing job loss and economic impacts due to the coronavirus pandemic," Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said in a statement. "We are extremely grateful to be able to open up another round of rent and utility relief to our residents as we begin our road to recovery." The program was announced during Thursday's Board of Commissioners meeting. Other eligibility requirements include a demonstrable risk of homelessness, and at least one individual who has qualified for unemployment benefits or received a reduction in income. Applicants must also be residents of Montgomery County. Applications will be evaluated on a priority basis determined by need, not first come, first serve. A total of $55,055,660 is available for the program, with funding from both the state and federal level. To apply and learn more details, see the Your Way Home site.
