March 18, 2021
In correlation to the spread of COVID-19, there has been a documented increase of violence and discrimination against members of the Asian community. The City of Golden Valley stands in solidarity with the Asian community and encourages individuals to interrupt harassment and discrimination by speaking out against racist behaviors.
Recent news reports have highlighted several incidents of violence across the nation against individuals who are or appear to be of Chinese or Asian descent. At this time, the City would like to remind the community of the opening words of its Welcome Statement: "The City of Golden Valley believes in and stands for the values of social equity, inclusion, and justice. We embrace diversity and recognize the rights of individuals to live their lives with dignity, free of discrimination, fear, violence, and hate."
The City of Golden Valley encourages residents to speak out against racism or discrimination, including hate speech, the spread of misinformation, and violence on social media and in-person against Asian and other Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Provide support for your community during this challenging time by reaching out to your family, friends and neighbors, especially those impacted by recent events.
