Canada wants to be able to ship their oil out from the gulf coast because it's cheaper than building a pipeline to their own coast. The US is not the biggest supplier of oil. It is the biggest producer, but we consume more than we produce. making us the second largest importer. (about 9,000,000,000 barrels a day in 2019) Only China imports more.
